Some helpful Volvo facts:

Volvo Construction Equipment - Volvo Construction Equipment (originally named Volvo BM) is a subsidiary and business area of AB Volvo. Volvo Construction Equipment develops, manufactures and markets equipment for the construction and related industries. The products, leaders in many world markets, include a comprehensive range of wheel loaders, wheeled and crawler hydraulic excavators, articulated haulers, motor graders, backhoe loaders, skid steer loaders, as well as compact excavators, skid steers, and wheel loaders. Volvo Construction Equipment has production facilities in Europe, Asia, North America, and South America. The company offers worldwide service and spare-part distribution. The corporation's equipment rental arm, Volvo Rents, began its equipment franchising initiative in 2001. The company now has more than 60 active equipment rental centers—mostly in North America—and continues to expand its operations in Europe with rental centers in Portugal and Spain.

Volvo 780 - Like its predecessor, the 780 was designed and built by Carrozzeria Bertone in Turin, Italy. However, unlike the 262C, the 780 was not merely a two-door 760 with a "chop top" roof. Bertone gave the 780 its own distinctive shape which set it apart from the other models, yet was still identifiable as a Volvo. The car had a sleek, low profile, inheriting some of the styling of the other 700 series cars, but without many of the severe angles and sharp corners. The hood, trunk, and roof lines were all slightly lower than the standard 700 series profile, and the C-pillar was wider and had a more gradual slope down to the trunk. Headroom was improved over the 262C, thanks to Bertone’s mere 1 centimeter lowering of the roofline! Window frames all had black matte trim, and were accented with chrome. Chrome also highlighted the door handles, bumpers, and side mouldings.

Volvo Amazon - The Volvo Amazon is a Swedish-built car, the first one being rolled out of the factory in October 1956 as an alternative to the Volvo PV. Known for being a reliable car, of the 297,000 sold in Sweden, 35,000 are still registered and it's expected that 15,000 are still in use.

The model number of the Amazon is 120. 121 was the base model with a single carburetor 66bhp engine. The 122S introduced in 1959 was the performance model equipped with a dual carburetor 85bhp engine. It included the 130 (two door saloon), 120 (four door saloon) and 220 (4-door estate wagon) models.

In 1967 came the 123GT that was a 130 with high compression B18B engine, M41 gearbox, fully reclining seats, front fog and driving lights, alternator, fender mounted mirrors, special steering wheel, dash with a shelf on the passenger side, limited slip differential, and other cosmetic upgrades.

XC90 SUV - The XC90 comes in three models -- 2.5T, T6 and V8. The 2.5T comes with a power driver seat with memory, cloth upholstery, dual-zone climate control and a CD player. A premium package adds leather upholstery, a moonroof, a power passenger seat, an in-dash CD changer and an auto-dimming mirror. If you opt for the T6 trim, all of the above are included, but its premium package will also get you a Dolby Pro Logic II Surround system with 12 speakers, 18-inch wheels, a wood steering wheel and power-retractable side mirrors. The V8 model gets unique 18-inch wheels, body-colored door handles, twin exhaust pipes and most of the T6's optional equipment as standard. Individual options include a DVD-based navigation system, bi-HID headlamps, parking sensors and a DVD entertainment system.

V50 wagon - Two trims of the compact V50 wagon are available: the base 2.4i and the sporty T5. Standard items on the 2.4i include tinted windows; power-adjustable heated exterior rearview mirrors; manual climate control; a leather-wrapped steering wheel; and a six-speaker, AM/FM single-CD sound system. Step up to the T5 and you get an eight-way power-adjustable driver seat with lumbar support, automatic climate control, a cargo-area 12-volt power outlet, aluminum trim and steering wheel-mounted audio controls. Options include 17-inch twin alloy wheels, leather upholstery, heated front seats, xenon headlights, windshield and rear-window wiper de-icers and a power moonroof.

Volvo P1800 - Volvo P1800 is an automobile from Volvo. The project was started in 1957 because Volvo wanted a sports car. The man behind the project was an engineering consultant to Volvo, Helmer Petterson, who in the 1940s was responsible for the Volvo PV 444. The design work was done by Helmer´s son Per "Pelle" Petterson, who worked at Pietro Frua at that time. The Italian Carrozzeria Pietro Frua design firm (a subsidiary of Ghia) built the first three prototypes, designated: P958-X1, P958-X2 and P958-X3. The engine was the B18 with dual carburettors with the M40 gearbox. The engine produced 100 hp (75 kW).

The first public pictures were released in 1959. At the time of its launch, it was thought that because of its then-futuristic looks, the P1800 would have a long production life. It did have a long life, although stylistically the finned rear end would date rapidly.

Volvo S90 - Volvo 960 is an automobile from Volvo. It was the high-end version of Volvo 940 and the replacement for Volvo 760. Production ended in 1998, but the last two years were called Volvo S90/Volvo V90 instead.

The 1992-1994 Volvo 960's were built in Kalmar, Sweden. The very first Volvo 960 rolled off the assembly line on August 12, 1991 as a 1992 model. The 1995-1998 960s were built in Goteborg, Sweden. The very first 1995 960 rolled off the assembly line on June 27, 1994. All US cars were equipped with a Asin Warner automatic gearbox, European cars were also available with a manual gearbox, a strong new design that derived from the Volvo 850 gearbox.

V70 R wagon - Most desirable features come standard on the V70 R. The equipment list includes bi-xenon headlights, 17-inch wheels with 235/45ZR17 tires, leather upholstery, bolstered sport seats, a three-spoke steering wheel with tilt/telescope adjustment, aluminum inlays, dual-zone automatic climate control, a CD player, a trip computer and a split-folding rear seat. On the options list, you'll find higher-grade leather upholstery, a sunroof, a four-disc CD changer, a DVD-based navigation system, Volvo's On Call telematics and an integrated child booster seat.

Volvo 140 - The Volvo 140 is an automobile from Volvo. It consists of the models Volvo 142 (two doors), Volvo 144 (four doors) and Volvo 145 (estate wagon). There was also the 145 Express whit a higher roof. It was first introduced in 1967. Production ended in 1974 and the series was replaced by the Volvo 200 series wich was mostly an upgraded 140. Starting with the 140 series, Volvo used a three number system for their cars. The first number was the series, the second number the number of cylinders and the third number the number of doors.

The 140 was the first Volvo to feature the classic "boxy" look which provided ample interior space. Compared to the Volvo Amazon, the 140 was a radical new design whit the only similar features being the split grill and some parts of the interior. It's basic shape would live into the 1990s whit the 200 series.

Volvo 160 - Volvo 160, or rather Volvo 164 since it was only produced in a four door version, was an automobile from Volvo produced between 1969 and 1975. It was an upscale version of the Volvo 140 with a straight-6 engine. It was available with various versions of the B30 engine (A, E and F). It was also available with the M400 and M410 manual gearboxes as well as the BW-35 automatic gearbox.

Volvo Duett - The Duett was an automobile from Volvo that was in production from 1953 to 1969. The design is based on the Volvo PV sedan and the front is the same, but instead of coil springs on all four corners as with the PV, the rear of the Duett is supported by leaf springs. It also used a ladder frame, while the PV is a unibody design. It was produced in Estate (or Station Wagon) bodies as well as vans.

The chassis were also sold bare in small numbers, minus bodies from the windshield rearward. These bare chassis versions were finished as pickup trucks and convertibles by such Swedish coach builders as Grip, Valbo and Nordbergs.

The model number designations distinguishing this family of Volvos are the 445 or P445, and the P210. The most notable difference that readily determines at a glance "which is which" is quite simple. If it's a PV-like estate with a 2 piece flat paned windshield like PV444, the car is a 445. The P210 introduced in the early 1960s sported the single piece curved windshield like its sister sedan, the PV544.

Volvo YCC - The Volvo YCC or the Volvo « Your Concept Car » was a concept car presented in 2004 with the stated goal of meeting the particular needs of women drivers. In order to do so Volvo assembled a design team entirely made up of women, some time in the Fall of 2001. It was a major exercice in ergonomics, focused on the female gender. Those who were involved during the several stages of the project were: Maria Widell Christiansen, Eva-Lisa Andersson, Elna Holmberg, Maria Uggla, Camilla Palmertz, Cynthia Charwick, Anna Rosén, Lena Ekelund and Tatiana Butovitsch Temm.

On the outside the car looked, at first glance, like a mildly futuristic four seat coupe. On closer inspection one could see that there was no hood, that is, no access panel permitting access to the car’s engine. Engine maintenance required taking out the whole front end of the car body, preferably in some establishment with the required space and equipment. This was not supposed to happen often: The engine was designed to need an oil change only after 50,000 km (32,000 miles) and to automatically send a radio message to a garage a short time before any required maintenance. Filling the windshield washer tank was done by a capless ball valve, right next to the capless gas tank ball valve. Volvo surveys had found (among many other things) that lady drivers considered caps to be a major nuisance.

The interior was maximized for easy storage and good looks. All of the textile panels or textile parts such as the seat pads or the door sides could be removed easily to change the color schemes and vary textures. The head rests had indentations to accommodate pony tails. The shifting column and the hand brake were removed from the center console to give the front seat passengers easier access to the large storage compartments located within the dashboard. The rear seat could fold up, as in some movie houses and theaters or as is the case with the jump seat of some planes and limousines, making it easy for the driver to get a fairly big item in the car without opening the hatchback.

Finally, the Volvo YCC's engine is a low-emission, gas-electric hybrid which provides power along with environmental safety.
